Four die as rain batters Multan


MULTAN:

At least four people were killed while five others sustained injuries as rain battered Multan.


According to rescue officials, a wall of a house in Tower Wali Street near the Eidgah fell, killing two siblings, 17-year-old Sadia and 12-year-old Faizan.


Upon receiving the information, rescue teams rushed to the spot and evacuated the bodies to the Nishtar hospital. In another incident, a woman was killed and a child was injured after the roof of their house in Basti Sandhila Tataypur caved in due to rain. Rescue 1122 shifted the child to the Nishtar Hospital. In a yet different incident, a man died when the wall of his house in Behari Colony fell on him. He remained buried under the debris of the wall until he died.


The body of the unidentified victim was shifted to the Nishtar Hospital.


A mud roof collapsed in Basti Billi Wala on Bahawalpur Road, injuring two persons. Rescue 1122 shifted one of the injured to the Nishtar Hospital, while the other person was provided with first aid on the scene. A pillar fell on a woman in Suraj Miani area due to rain. Rescue 1122 shifted the victim to the Nishtar Hospital.


Meanwhile, a cattle shed fell down near the Nasrullah Chowk which left one person injured. At least six people had died in rain-related accidents in the provincial capital last month. Reportedly, the family of Shabbir Ahmad had been asleep on the rooftop of his house situated in Awan Market, Bank Stop. A 50-year-old woman, who came to visit their place as a guest, also fell victim to the tempest. All the victims were in deep sleep when the heavy storm and rain hit the city. A wall, the neighbours had built to cover their roof, suddenly collapsed. The victims got buried under the debris of the wall and three of the victims died on the spot.


The deceased were identified as Mussarat, 45, Amna, 28, Sharjil, 18, Nafeel Ahmad, 14, and Mussarat Bibi, 50.
